So, you want to be a master beekeeper?

Sign up for Cornell's certificate program! The master beekeeper program is approximately a 15 month duration online program that provides the tools, training, and resources needed to become a certified master beekeeper. It consists of 4 courses plus a final in-person Master Beekeeping Exam Series.

Beekeepers enrolling in this certificate program must have at least 3 years of beekeeping experience.

The program is comprised of four courses offered throughout the year:

  • Course 1: Honey bee behavior and evolution 
  • Course 2: The art and science of beekeeping
  • Course 3: Managing pests and diseases
  • Course 4: Beyond the bee yard: the rewards and contributions of beekeeping

Certification in this program requires students to:

  • Complete all four online courses
  • Contribute meaningfully to course discussions and interactive activities
  • Research, prepare and deliver a 15 minute presentation on a relevant honey bee topic
  • Receive a score of at least 70% on the final written exam (held at Dyce Laboratory at Cornell University the following summer)
  • Receive a score of at least 70% on the final field exam (held at Dyce Laboratory at Cornell University the following summer)

Regular price: $899 for the entire program (4 courses + examinations)
